Gaea's Balance fetches up to five basic lands from your library and puts them onto the battlefield tapped — that's a massive mana surge in a single spell. The catch is the cost: five mana and sacrificing a Forest, which makes it a mid-to-late-game play, not an early accelerant.

Commander is where Gaea's Balance actually gets to shine — 100-card decks lean on basic land counts to justify it, and the five-land payoff can single-handedly fix a stumbling mana base or fuel a massive turn. In Legacy and Vintage it's a curiosity at best; the format speed makes a five-mana sorcery that requires a Forest sacrifice a non-starter against faster threats and countermagic. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's singleton, slower-game DNA that the card is playable there too, particularly in green decks that run enough basics to guarantee a full five-land hit.

Price Context
Current price
$0.30 bulk tier
At $0.30, Gaea's Balance sits firmly in bulk territory — easy to pick up as a throw-in trade or penny bin find. Bulk ramp spells rarely spike unless a new commander creates sudden demand, so don't expect the price to move.
