Fynn, the Fangbearer card art
Fynn, the Fangbearer turns every deathtouch creature into a two-hit poison clock — any combat damage from a deathtoucher under his banner drops two poison counters, and ten ends the game. Two mana is an absurdly low ask for a commander who converts the most efficient combat keyword in the format into an alternate win condition, and Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons players have known this since the day he was printed.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons

Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons

56.4% of decks · synergy 0.51

Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons is the canonical home for Fynn, the Fangbearer — Hapatra floods the board with -1/-1 counter triggers while Fynn's deathtouch clause means even a 1/1 snake can close the game in five swings.

02
Shelob, Child of Ungoliant

Shelob, Child of Ungoliant

53.4% of decks · synergy 0.48

Shelob, Child of Ungoliant gives every non-token creature you control deathtouch and ward, which means Fynn, the Fangbearer's trigger fires off your entire squad — the two commanders together make nearly any attacker a credible poison threat.

03
Aphelia, Viper Whisperer

Aphelia, Viper Whisperer

49.5% of decks · synergy 0.44

Aphelia, Viper Whisperer is built around poison and snake tribal, so Fynn, the Fangbearer slots in as redundant reach — a second axis that poisons out opponents through combat without needing Aphelia on board.

04
Vraska, the Silencer

Vraska, the Silencer

37.3% of decks · synergy 0.32

Vraska, the Silencer's deathtouch body and gorgon-tribal trappings make Fynn, the Fangbearer a natural include — both threaten opponents through combat, and Fynn converts Vraska's deathtouch into poison pressure the moment she connects.

05
Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa

Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa

18.0% of decks · synergy 0.17

Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa proliferates counters whenever its corrupted creatures deal damage, and Fynn, the Fangbearer accelerates the poison clock that proliferate then multiplies — opponents who take even two poison early can find themselves eliminated much faster than expected.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict

oathbreaker

Fynn, the Fangbearer is legal across every major constructed format but sees essentially no play outside Commander — the poison-via-deathtouch plan is too slow and too creature-dependent for Legacy or Vintage, and Pioneer and Modern both lack the critical density of cheap deathtouch enablers to make the gameplan consistent. Standard currently has him available but the archetype hasn't materialized into a real deck. Commander is where Fynn lives: as a 99-card inclusion in deathtouch and poison strategies, or as a dedicated two-mana commander whose alternate win condition is fully supported by the format's singleton density of deathtouch creatures.
