Frontline Rebel is a 3/3 for two mana — an aggressive rate that demands it attack every turn if able, which is the entire cost of entry. That forced-attack clause is a real drawback in Commander where blocking and passing turns strategically matters, but in dedicated aggressive or combo shells that want to attack anyway, the downside is close to zero.

In Commander, Frontline Rebel slots cleanly into aggro and combat-focused decks where the attack requirement is a non-issue — anywhere else, three opponents with blockers make the forced-attack clause genuinely punishing. In Pauper, a 3/3 for two mana is a legitimate threat in aggressive commons-only shells, and the format's lack of efficient blockers at common makes the drawback easier to manage. Modern and Pioneer have enough two-drop competition that Frontline Rebel rarely makes the cut, facing creatures with better upside for the same cost. Legacy and Vintage move too fast for a vanilla-adjacent two-drop to matter. The card finds its ceiling in Commander and Pauper specifically.
