Freewind Equenaut locks down an opponent's attacker every turn it swings — a repeatable tap effect stapled to a 2/3 flyer for three mana. The catch is that the tap only triggers when Equenaut attacks, so any turn you hold back, you're giving up the control element entirely.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Freewind Equenaut sees essentially no competitive play in Legacy, Vintage, or Modern — the card pool in those formats offers far more efficient threats and tap effects at the same cost. In Pauper, it's legal but undersupported; white flyers at common have better options and the tap-on-attack condition makes it unreliable for tempo strategies. Commander is the only realistic home, and even there Freewind Equenaut needs a dedicated go-wide or attacking-matters shell to justify the slot — passive tap effects on combat creatures are outclassed by cards that don't require you to attack to generate value.

Current price
$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, Freewind Equenaut is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in but not a card that holds value or appreciates with time. There's no spike scenario here: the effect is too narrow and the competition at this role too stiff.
