Forum Familiar

In Commander, Forum Familiar fills a color-fixing-plus-draw niche that most decks don't need to fill with a creature — Arcane Signet and friends do the fixing for free, and draw engines at this slot are usually stronger. It finds a home in five-color and four-color builds desperate for flexible pips, where the looting effect is a bonus rather than the point. Across constructed formats like Modern and Pioneer, a 1/1 with a two-mana total investment to draw once doesn't clear the bar — there are strictly better options at every point on that curve. Standard is the one format where Forum Familiar might see fringe play if the format's fixing is bad enough, but it's never the first choice. Legacy and Vintage simply ignore it.
