Forsworn Paladin card art
Forsworn Paladin enters tapped, but the value proposition is immediate: it makes a Treasure on arrival and can pump itself or another Knight by paying life to add black mana, turning that Treasure into a threat the turn you play it. The life-payment ceiling is capped by your own total, so the ceiling is real — but in Knight-tribal shells led by Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir or recursion engines like Haakon, Stromgald Scourge, the combination of artifact generation, mana flexibility, and on-type synergy makes it a clean include.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir

Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir

18.2% of decks · synergy 0.17

Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir cares about Knights entering the battlefield, and Forsworn Paladin delivers twice — once on entry with the Treasure and again whenever you sink mana into its activated ability to push a Knight past a blocker.

02
Rev, Tithe Extractor

Rev, Tithe Extractor

17.9% of decks · synergy 0.17

Rev, Tithe Extractor rewards artifact production and sacrifice, and Forsworn Paladin feeds that engine directly by generating a Treasure on entry that Rev can immediately exploit for value.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

In Commander, Forsworn Paladin earns its slot specifically in Knight-tribal or artifact-sacrifice builds — outside those two niches, a 1/1 with a life-payment ceiling is too narrow for a 100-card singleton format. Modern and Pioneer have the tools to make black aggressive Knights viable, but the enter-tapped clause is a real cost in powered formats where tempo decides games. Legacy and Vintage won't touch it; the card simply doesn't clear the power bar those formats set. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander in this regard — synergy-dependent, playable in the right shell, ignorable everywhere else.

Price Context

Current price

$0.33 bulk tier

At $0.33, Forsworn Paladin is pure bulk, and the price reflects its narrow demand — it moves only when someone is actively building Knights or artifact sacrifice. Bulk rares rarely spike without a reprint or a new commander that breaks the synergy open, so expect it to stay in this tier unless a high-profile Knight commander pulls it into the mainstream.
