In Commander, Formation Breaker fills a narrow niche: it answers Defender-tribal and pillow-fort pieces like Arcades, the Strategist's Wall army while leaving you a creature. Outside of dedicated hate for Wall or Defender strategies, the slot is better used on broader removal. In constructed formats — Standard, Pioneer, Modern — Formation Breaker is sideboard material at best, relevant only in metas where Wall-based combo or Defender aggro is a real presence. Legacy and Vintage have access to far more efficient disruption, so it sees essentially no play there.
