Forcemage Advocate puts a +1/+1 counter on any creature at instant speed — the catch is you hand an opponent a card from their graveyard first. That symmetry cost kills it in most contexts; you're paying mana to give an opponent resources in exchange for an effect green finds for free on better cards.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Forcemage Advocate is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but seeing play in none of them competitively. In Commander, the graveyard recursion rider actively backfires — opponents run full graveyards of powerful cards, so fueling them to +1/+1 a creature is a losing trade. Legacy and Vintage have access to far more efficient ways to distribute counters without handing opponents anything. Forcemage Advocate occupies a niche that no format's metagame has found worth filling.

$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Forcemage Advocate is deep bulk — the price reflects demand, which is close to zero. It won't climb without a specific combo or synergy breakout, and none is visible on the horizon.
