Foratog trades your forests for a massive, repeatable power boost at instant speed — the ceiling is enormous in any deck running a lot of basic Forests. The cost is permanent land sacrifice, which makes this a one-shot finisher rather than a recurring threat.

In Commander, Foratog is a niche card that finds its best home in mono-green stompy or lands-matter builds that can close a game in one attack and don't mind cashing out their mana base to do it. Legacy, Vintage, and Modern all have access to Foratog, but the sacrifice cost is too steep for competitive formats that need lands to function past turn four — there's no viable shell there. The card is not legal in Pioneer, Standard, or Pauper, so the Commander table is where Foratog actually lives.
