Flaming Gambit deals damage to a creature equal to the number of cards in your hand — no mana cost, just pitch a red card to pay for it. It's a role-player in high-hand-size red builds, irrelevant everywhere else.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Flaming Gambit sees essentially no play in Legacy or Vintage despite being legal — the pitch cost is real, and better removal exists at every price point. Commander is where it has the most theoretical home, specifically in decks that draw aggressively and need free interaction, but even there it competes poorly against staples that don't cost a card from hand. The damage ceiling scales with hand size, so a Wheel of Fortune deck might fire it for 10+, but that's a narrow window requiring setup. Outside those fringe Commander builds, Flaming Gambit is a novelty.

Price Context
Current price
$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Flaming Gambit is deep bulk — the price reflects its near-zero competitive demand. It holds that floor reliably; there's no spike risk, but no appreciation trajectory either.
