Fissure Wizard trades a card from your hand to bounce a nonland permanent when it attacks — repeatable interaction stapled to a body, paid in card disadvantage. It's worth running only when you can reload fast enough to offset the cost, which limits it to dedicated discard-matters or graveyard-value shells.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Fissure Wizard finds a home in decks that want to pitch cards — Anje Falkenrath madness builds, Ettrig reanimator, or any shell running Asylum Visitor effects — where the discard cost becomes a feature. Pauper is its most competitive home: commons-only card quality is low enough that a repeatable bounce effect on an aggressive body is genuinely threatening, and the madness enabler angle is easy to assemble. In Modern and Legacy the card is simply outclassed — there are faster, cheaper, and more impactful ways to bounce permanents without giving up cards. Fissure Wizard is legal across Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker as well, but the same logic applies: unless your deck actively rewards the discard, you're paying too much.

Price Context
Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Fissure Wizard is deep bulk — pick it up without hesitation if the shell fits. That price is stable at the floor; there's no scarcity driving it up, so grab a copy from a bulk bin rather than paying shipping for a single.
