First-Time Flyer gives a creature flying and +1/+1 until end of turn for one white mana — it's a combat trick that trades board presence for a single evasive hit. Functional, but narrow; it's an Auras or go-wide list's sideboard thought, not a staple.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
First-Time Flyer is legal everywhere but earns a slot almost nowhere. In Standard and Pioneer it competes with combat tricks that leave something permanent behind, and losing to a two-for-one at instant speed is a real cost. Modern and Legacy have cheaper, more impactful options at the same mana value. In Commander, one-shot pump spells are nearly unplayable — 100-card singleton formats reward permanents that generate ongoing advantage, and First-Time Flyer's ceiling is a surprise flying attacker that trades into a blocker. Pauper is the only format where budget redundancy might justify it in a dedicated white weenie or Auras shell, and even there it's a fringe inclusion.

Current price
$0.04 bulk tier
At $0.04, First-Time Flyer is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a commons box, not a store page. That price won't move; the card sees no competitive demand to push it upward.
