First-Sphere Gargantua enters the battlefield and immediately replaces itself — you get a 4/3 menace body and draw a card, losing one life, all for six mana. The cost is real: six is a lot to ask in competitive mana economies, and this is bulk for a reason.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
First-Sphere Gargantua is a Pauper-legal common, and that's where it sees the most legitimate consideration — six mana is steep even there, but black reanimator shells that want self-mill or cheap bodies may dabble. In Commander, the card draw and menace body are fine, but six mana for a 4/3 that draws one is below rate unless you're abusing enters-the-battlefield triggers or recursion loops with something like Tortured Existence. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; the rate is nowhere near the format's bar. The sweet spot is budget Commander decks that need a curve-topper with built-in value and don't have access to stronger six-drops.

Price Context
Current price
$0.05 bulk tier
At $0.05, First-Sphere Gargantua is deep bulk — you're picking it out of a dollar box, not tracking its price. It holds that floor indefinitely; there's no pressure driving it higher.
