Firmament Sage draws you cards equal to the number of enchantments you control when it enters — in a dedicated enchantress shell, that's routinely four or more cards off a single creature. The cost is a five-mana body with no immediate board impact beyond the draw, which means it earns its slot only if you've built around enchantments.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is unambiguously where Firmament Sage belongs — the 100-card singleton format rewards enchantress strategies that accumulate many enchantments over a longer game, and the payoff of drawing five-plus cards off a single enter-the-battlefield trigger is genuinely backbreaking in that context. In Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer, Firmament Sage is too slow and too conditional: competitive non-rotating formats don't give you the time to build a wide enchantment board before the game ends, and a five-mana do-nothing-if-you're-behind creature has no place there. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's pace and enchantment-synergy potential that Firmament Sage is playable in the right spellbook, though the smaller deck size makes it marginally less consistent.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Firmament Sage is deep bulk — it costs less than most basic lands in foil, and there's no financial case for sitting on copies. The price reflects limited cross-format demand; it's a Commander-only role player, and unless enchantress strategies spike in popularity, the floor stays right here.
