In Commander, Firemaw Kavu is a niche piece in blink and flicker decks that want repeatable enter-the-battlefield damage — every Conjurer's Closet activation nets another 4-damage ping, and skipping echo to force the leave trigger is a built-in feature, not a bug. Outside Commander, it's legal in Legacy, Modern, and Vintage, but six mana for a 4/2 without evasion doesn't compete in formats where the curve is compressed and threats are cheaper.
