Fire Imp enters the battlefield and immediately kills a creature with toughness 1 or less — no setup required, no mana sink, just a body that cleans up mana dorks and token generators on arrival. Three mana for a 2/2 with a targeted removal trigger is a real rate in formats that care about tempo, but it's too narrow for most Commander tables where threats routinely have toughness 2 or higher.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Fire Imp is too conditional to earn a slot — the format's threats are large enough that a toughness-1 ceiling on removal misses most of what matters at a four-player table. Legacy and Vintage are where Fire Imp has theoretical standing, since mana dorks like Birds of Paradise and Noble Hierarch are everywhere, but even there a 2/2 body doesn't move the needle enough to displace purpose-built removal. Oathbreaker shares Commander's card-density pressures, so the same conditional problem applies.

Price Context
Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Fire Imp sits firmly in bulk territory and is unlikely to move without a dramatic shift in format support. Pick it up if you have a specific use case in mind — it won't cost you anything — but don't expect scarcity to do any work here.
