Fiery Gambit

Sorcery

Flip a coin until you lose a flip or choose to stop flipping. If you lose a flip, Fiery Gambit has no effect. If you win one or more flips, Fiery Gambit deals 3 damage to target creature. If you win two or more flips, Fiery Gambit deals 6 damage to each opponent. If you win three or more flips, draw nine cards and untap all lands you control.

Fiery Gambit card art
Fiery Gambit can net you three free spells, 10 damage to a player's face, and three cards off a single coin-flip chain — and costs you nothing but a creature blocker and the variance tax. In a dedicated flip deck headed by Okaun, Eye of Chaos // Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom, that variance is the point, and the ceiling here is genuinely backbreaking.

89.0% of decks · synergy 0.85

Okaun, Eye of Chaos // Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom is the natural home: every consecutive flip Fiery Gambit demands doubles Okaun's power and triggers Zndrsplt's draw, so a four-flip run doesn't just clear a creature — it sets up a lethal swing the same turn.

Yusri, Fortune's Flame turns each Fiery Gambit flip into a potential free spell, stacking spell-cast triggers and immunity windows into a single explosive sequence that can snowball far beyond what the card's mana cost suggests.

Fiery Gambit is a Commander card — full stop. The flip-chain payoffs (free spells, mass damage, free cards) scale with the longer game and the presence of flip-synergy commanders that simply don't exist in Legacy or Vintage in any meaningful way. In those eternal formats it's a curiosity at best: three mana to potentially do nothing if the first flip goes tails, with no redundancy and no shell built around it. Commander is where the card actually functions as designed, specifically in the Okaun/Zndrsplt and Yusri niches where the probability investment is baked into the entire strategy. Oathbreaker is legal and could support a flip-centric build, though the smaller deck size and faster pace make the all-in coin-flip payoff harder to assemble.

Pricing data for Fiery Gambit isn't currently available in our sources, so check Scryfall or your preferred vendor for a current number. Given its narrow home in flip-tribal Commander decks, it tends to carry a niche-premium relative to its raw power level — worth picking up if you're building the archetype, easy to skip otherwise.
