Festering Gulch enters tapped and produces either colorless mana or black mana with a -1/-1 rider attached to a creature you control — a real cost that can kill a one-toughness creature or undermine a counter-stacking strategy. It's a strict downgrade from a basic Swamp in any deck that doesn't actively want -1/-1 counters on its own creatures.

Festering Gulch is legal everywhere but earns a slot almost nowhere. In Commander, the -1/-1 trigger is occasionally useful in Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons or Atraxa, Praetors' Voice shells that run counter-synergy payoffs, but even there a Golgari Rot Farm or Jungle Hollow does more work without the downside. In Pauper, where every land slot is contested and enters-tapped lands are already a tempo concession, the self-damage rider pushes it below the threshold for serious consideration. Constructed formats have no realistic home — the card simply doesn't compete with the density of functional dual lands available at common.

Price Context
Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Festering Gulch sits in bulk territory and will stay there — demand is too narrow to move the needle. If you're building a -1/-1 counter deck on a shoestring, it's a fine penny pickup, but don't expect it to appreciate.
