Feral Lightning puts three 3/2 Elemental tokens with trample and haste onto the battlefield — nine power swinging the same turn you cast it. Six mana for a one-shot token burst with no staying power after combat is a real cost, and that ceiling keeps it out of competitive lists.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Feral Lightning is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker. Commander is its real home — the combination of token synergy payoffs and the fact that you only need one opponent dead rather than three means a six-mana sorcery that generates nine hasty power can close games in ways it simply can't in 1v1 formats. In Modern and Legacy, a sorcery-speed six-drop producing tokens that die at end of turn competes against formats that end games on turn three or four, and it doesn't make the cut. Vintage has better things to do at six mana. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's multiplayer math that the card is at least functional there, especially under a red Planeswalker that rewards token generation.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Feral Lightning is deep bulk — a throw-in card you pick up as an afterthought, not a deliberate purchase. Bulk token generators with narrow applications don't tend to move unless a new commander pushes them into the spotlight, so don't expect the price to shift.
