Fan Bearer taps a creature for two mana at sorcery speed — functional, but barely: this is the floor of what tap effects look like in Magic. Run it only if you have a specific reason to want redundancy on this effect at common rarity, because better options exist at every power level above budget pauper.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Fan Bearer is too slow and too fragile to earn a slot — one-for-one tap effects on a 1/2 body don't scale to a four-player table, and sorcery speed means you can't even use it as a combat trick. Pauper is the one format where Fan Bearer has a plausible home, specifically in white weenie or exert-matters shells where cheap tap synergies and common-only restrictions make the card at least contextually relevant. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer the card is legal but effectively invisible — no competitive archetype wants this effect at this cost when far more efficient options are available. Vintage and Oathbreaker follow the same logic: legal on paper, irrelevant in practice.

Price Context
Current price
$0.09 bulk tier
At $0.09, Fan Bearer is deep bulk — the kind of card that fills a common box and rarely leaves it. That price won't move meaningfully in either direction; there's no combo demand or casual spike waiting to happen here.
