Extract the Truth card art
Extract the Truth forces an opponent to reveal their hand and exile all non-land permanents from it — a surgical hand-wipe that doubles as information. Two mana at instant speed for that effect is a real rate; run it in any black deck that wants to kneecap combo players before they can execute.

Format Analysis

In Commander, Extract the Truth earns its slot as cheap interaction against combo-heavy pods — stripping the key piece from an opponent's hand before they untap is often worth more than a single target removal spell. In Pauper, the effect is powerful enough to see play in discard-based strategies where two mana at instant speed closes out games. Legacy and Vintage have more efficient discard available, so Extract the Truth doesn't crack those formats. Modern and Pioneer are the middle ground: the card is legal but competing against Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek, which are simply better for redundancy reasons.
