Explosion of Riches draws five cards — one for you, one for each opponent — the moment it enters, and every subsequent spell you cast triggers another round of the same. The symmetry is the whole problem: in a four-player pod you're giving away twelve cards before the table folds, which means it belongs only in decks built to abuse the trigger repeatedly while opponents drown in reactive spells they can't use fast enough.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Explosion of Riches is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's a Commander card through and through — the four-player symmetry that makes it awkward in a duel becomes its engine in a full pod, where each trigger draws you one card and floods three opponents with answers they may not be able to deploy. In Legacy and Vintage the card is simply too slow and too symmetrical; those formats punish group-hug effects immediately and mercilessly. Oathbreaker is the one alternative home where the extra players make the math palatable, though the 20-life total compresses games before Explosion of Riches can grind value.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Explosion of Riches sits firmly in bulk territory, which makes it an easy pickup to test. Bulk rares with genuine Commander utility tend to stay flat indefinitely rather than spike unless a new commander pushes them into sudden demand, so there's no urgency — and no risk — at this price.
