Evolving Door lets you sacrifice a creature to tutor any creature that shares exactly one color with it from your library — an engine that chains permanent value as long as you have bodies to feed it. The activation cost is real, but in decks built around sacrifice or creature typing, it converts expendable fodder into exactly the piece you need.

Commander is where Evolving Door does its best work — 100-card singleton rewards tutors heavily, and the ability to fetch any creature sharing a color with your sacrifice target gives multicolor decks a surprisingly wide net. In Modern and Pioneer the card competes with faster, more consistent search effects and rarely makes the cut outside niche creature-toolbox shells. Legacy has even less patience for a three-mana enchantment that requires an additional sacrifice to function. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander logic at a smaller scale, and the narrower deck size makes hitting the right color overlap easier to engineer.
