Evolved Spinoderm card art
Evolved Spinoderm lands as a 4/4 with phasing and toxic 1 for four mana — threatening clock, built-in protection, and poison pressure stapled together. The catch is that it phases out every other turn, which halves its offensive output and makes it unreliable as a blocker; you run it because the upside is real, not because the downside is ignorable.

In Commander, Evolved Spinoderm fits narrowest in dedicated poison or infect builds where toxic 1 stacks with other vectors and the phasing rhythm matters less than accumulating counters over a long game. In Modern and Pioneer, a four-mana 4/4 that phases out every other turn struggles to compete with threats that either close games faster or leave the battlefield on your terms — the phasing is protection, yes, but tempo loss in those formats is punishing. Legacy and Vintage have enough raw power floating around that Evolved Spinoderm never sees serious play. Commander is where it has the most shelf life, and even there it earns a slot only when the deck is explicitly built around poison.

Price Context

Current price

$0.10 bulk tier

At $0.10, Evolved Spinoderm is pure bulk — no financial hesitation required if the deck calls for it. Niche appeal in poison Commander builds keeps it from being a total throwaway, but don't expect the price to move meaningfully in either direction.
