Evangelize steals a creature from an opponent's hand — permanently — for five mana, no combat required. The buyback cost is steep, but the effect is clean: you take something, they lose it.

Commander is where Evangelize finds its niche, specifically in white-heavy decks that want political tools or incremental hand disruption against creature-combo opponents. The buyback cost of six additional mana is genuinely prohibitive at typical Commander tables, so treat it as a one-shot effect unless you're running a dedicated ramp engine. In Legacy and Vintage, Evangelize is too slow and too narrow — five mana for a conditional discard effect doesn't compete. Modern has better options at lower costs, and Evangelize sees essentially no play there.

Price Context
Current price
$0.45 bulk tier
At $0.45, Evangelize is deep bulk — easy to pick up, easy to forget. It's unlikely to appreciate given how rarely it sees serious play, but at that price, testing it costs nothing.
