Ethereal Usher card art
Ethereal Usher is a five-mana 2/3 that taps to make any creature with converted mana cost 3 or less unblockable until end of turn — a slow, body-attached evasion effect that asks a lot for what it delivers. The cost in both mana and tempo is too steep for most competitive tables, but it finds a narrow home in casual Voltron or evasion-matters builds that want redundant unblockable enablers.

In Commander, Ethereal Usher occupies the low end of viable — it works in casual pods running small Voltron threats or commanders that win through combat damage, but it's outclassed by cheaper, more efficient unblockable effects on most lists. Legacy, Vintage, and Modern are all legal, but Ethereal Usher sees no meaningful play there; a five-mana do-nothing-when-it-enters creature with a tap ability simply can't compete at those tables. Oathbreaker is the friendliest non-Commander home, where lower life totals make unblockable damage more decisive, though even there better options usually exist.

Price Context

Current price

$0.26 bulk tier

At $0.26, Ethereal Usher is deep bulk — you're not paying for power, you're paying for availability. Don't expect the price to move; niche casual utility at five mana doesn't generate the demand that would push a card out of the bulk bin.
