Essence Infusion puts +2/+2 on any creature for two mana at instant speed — a clean, permanent stat boost with no strings attached. It's playable, but in Commander it competes with pump spells that also draw a card or generate a token, and it loses that fight most of the time.

In Pauper it's most relevant, where permanent +2/+2 at common can push a creature past a key defensive threshold or win a combat race. In Commander the bar is higher — 100-card decks want effects that advance a board state or generate card advantage, and Essence Infusion does neither beyond the single target. In Modern and Pioneer it has no competitive foothold; better pump spells exist at the same cost with upside.
