Erratic Visionary gives you a 1/3 body that cantrips on tap and replaces itself with a spell cast — repeatable card filtering stapled to a blocker. The cost is that it needs untap steps and a steady stream of spells to generate real value, which makes it dependent on a deck that can exploit both.

In Commander, Erratic Visionary slots into spell-heavy blue builds — Spellslinger commanders and Wizards typal decks get the most out of the triggered loot, turning each cast into card selection. Pauper is where Erratic Visionary has the most competitive relevance, since the combination of a relevant body and free filtering on a common is genuinely hard to find at that rarity. Modern and Legacy have enough cheap interaction and stronger cantrips that a 1/3 that requires you to cast a spell to filter is too slow to see real play. Pioneer similarly has no compelling home — the effect is real but the rate doesn't compete.

Price Context
Current price
$0.03 bulk tier
At $0.03, Erratic Visionary is deep bulk — the floor of what cards cost. It holds no monetary value to speak of, but the price means there's zero barrier to sleeving it if the effect fits your deck.
