Ephara's Warden taps to prevent a creature from untapping — a repeatable soft-lock on one blocker or attacker that scales with how many times you can untap it. The cost is everything: a 1/3 body at three mana that does nothing the turn it enters and folds to any spell that removes it before you get value.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Ephara's Warden lives almost entirely in Commander, where tap-down engines get broken by untap synergies — Derevi, Empyrial Tactician and Seedborn Muse turn one activation into a full table lockout. In Pauper it's legal but unplayed; the format moves too fast for a three-mana do-nothing-on-entry creature to matter. Legacy, Modern, and Vintage have access to strictly more efficient tap effects and wouldn't touch Ephara's Warden at any mana cost. The card's ceiling is a Commander niche and its floor is bulk.

Price Context
Current price
$0.06 bulk tier
At $0.06, Ephara's Warden is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not the card itself. That price is stable because demand is narrow; nothing in the competitive landscape is going to pull it upward.
