Enthusiastic Study gives a creature +2/+2, trample, and haste until end of turn, then replaces itself with a card draw — all for two mana at instant speed. It's a combat trick that pays for itself, and in any deck that cares about haste enablers or pump spells, it earns its slot without argument.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Enthusiastic Study does real work in creature-centric decks that want to threaten a kill out of nowhere — the haste clause turns a summoning-sick threat into an immediate attacker, and the draw keeps you from going card-negative on a cantrip combat trick. Pauper is where it's most competitively relevant: commons that replace themselves while generating board impact are exactly what the format rewards, and it fits naturally into aggressive red strategies. In Modern and Pioneer, the rate is fine but the competition is stiffer — Temur Battle Rage and similar effects do more damage for the same mana without needing a creature already in play. Legacy and Vintage have no meaningful home for it. Enthusiastic Study is a Commander and Pauper card first.

$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Enthusiastic Study is deep bulk — you'll find copies in any dollar bin or grab a playset for under a dollar without thinking twice. Bulk cantrips with narrow applications don't appreciate, so there's no reason to stockpile; just pick up the copies you need and move on.
