Enigma Thief hits the board and immediately bounces a nonland permanent for each Rogue you control — in the right deck, that's three or four tempo swings stapled to one card. The seven-mana cost is real, but Anowon, the Ruin Thief decks that go wide with Rogues make this a late-game haymaker rather than a liability.

Anowon, the Ruin Thief
Anowon, the Ruin Thief floods the board with Rogues through both its own triggers and the tribal support the deck naturally runs, which means Enigma Thief enters and bounces multiple permanents — often clearing the path for an unblocked alpha strike the same turn.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Enigma Thief is a Commander card through and through — the triggered ability scales with board state in a way that only matters when you've had several turns to build a Rogue army. In Legacy and Vintage, seven mana is a non-starter; the formats move too fast and answers are too cheap for a creature that does nothing until it resolves. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander format where it's legal and occasionally relevant, but the smaller deck size and lower average game length blunt its impact. Stick to Commander.

$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Enigma Thief is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or cheap order filler. Bulk rares with narrow tribal applications rarely climb, so don't expect this to move; just grab it when you're already placing an order.
