Enigma Sphinx lands as a 5/4 flyer with cascade, putting a free spell on the stack the moment it enters — that's immediate value before your opponents can answer it. Seven mana is the real cost, and outside of decks that can cheat it into play or recur the cascade trigger, that number is just steep enough to keep Enigma Sphinx out of most competitive lists.

Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign
Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign attacks and puts the top card of your library onto the battlefield for free if it has an odd mana value — Enigma Sphinx costs seven, which is odd, so Yennett can deploy it without spending a single mana, then cascade into another spell on top of it, turning one attack step into a three-card swing.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Commander is where Enigma Sphinx actually gets played, and specifically in decks built around Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign or other top-deck manipulation that can deploy it ahead of curve. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but effectively invisible — the cascade clause doesn't generate enough immediate power to compete at those speeds, and seven mana is a non-starter. Modern shares the same problem; Enigma Sphinx doesn't have the raw efficiency or redundancy to earn a slot in any established archetype. Treat this as a Commander-exclusive card in practice.

Price Context
Current price
$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Enigma Sphinx is deep bulk — easy to pick up in trade binders or as a throw-in. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile Yennett list pushes it, so grab it cheap when you need it and don't expect much back if you trade it away.
