Enemy of Enlightenment taxes every opponent's draw step for the rest of the game — land on this early and the card advantage gap compounds fast. At five mana for a 6/6 flyer with no enters-the-battlefield clause, the floor is already a threatening body, and the ceiling is locking spell-heavy tables out of their engines.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Enemy of Enlightenment does its best work — multiplayer means three opponents each paying life to draw, which stacks into serious pressure without any additional setup. In Legacy and Vintage the card is legal but essentially irrelevant; those formats kill or combo faster than a five-mana enchantment creature can matter, and the effect does nothing to stop the stack. Modern and Pioneer are similarly hostile territory, though a dedicated tax-and-grind shell could theoretically find room for it. Oathbreaker gives it a cleaner home than the eternal formats, particularly under a life-draining planeswalker.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Enemy of Enlightenment is deep bulk — pick it up without thinking about it. Bulk rares with narrow applications tend to stay in this range indefinitely, so there's no urgency beyond just needing the card.
