Empyrean Eagle card art
Empyrean Eagle pumps every flier you control the moment it enters, turning a board of modest aerial creatures into a genuine clock. Three mana for a 2/3 that anthems the sky is the kind of rate Kangee, Sky Warden decks run unconditionally.

Kangee, Sky Warden

Kangee, Sky Warden

89.8% of decks · synergy 0.80

Kangee, Sky Warden cares about attacking with fliers, and Empyrean Eagle's +1/+1 anthem turns every Bird, Spirit, and Angel into a bigger threat before combat math even begins.

03
Choco, Seeker of Paradise

Choco, Seeker of Paradise

62.1% of decks · synergy 0.58

Choco, Seeker of Paradise builds a wide flying board, and Empyrean Eagle turns that horizontal spread into meaningful damage with a single three-mana investment.

05
Errant and Giada

Errant and Giada

68.2% of decks · synergy 0.58

Errant and Giada stack Angels into the air, and Empyrean Eagle layers a permanent anthem on top of whatever Giada's counters have already provided.

Empyrean Eagle is legal everywhere it could matter, but it's doing real work almost exclusively in Commander. In 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, three mana for a lord that doesn't protect itself and doesn't close games on its own is simply too slow — tribal fliers strategies there lean on cheaper, more explosive payoffs. In Commander, the calculus flips: you have 40 life to race against, a board that accumulates over many turns, and Empyrean Eagle's anthem applies to every flying creature you control simultaneously, which scales hard in decks that go wide in the air. Oathbreaker sees similar use to Commander for the same reasons, though the smaller life total tightens the window.
