Emerald Oryx makes your forests hit harder — every Forest you control gives it +1/+1, which scales reasonably in mono-green but never threatens to take over a game on its own. A 4-mana 2/2 that needs eight Forests to become remotely scary is a bad rate in any format where better options exist.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Emerald Oryx is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but that breadth doesn't translate to meaningful play in any of them. In Commander it occupies the bottom tier of mono-green threats — Forests-matter synergy is real in dedicated landfall or Forests-care decks, but the Oryx's payoff is a vanilla pump with no evasion, no enters-the-battlefield effect, and no board impact beyond its own stats. In Pauper, where commons define the format, a four-mana do-nothing without immediate value gets outclassed by essentially every green threat at the same cost. Emerald Oryx is a Limited card that wandered into Constructed.

Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Emerald Oryx is deep bulk — it costs less than a sleeve. Don't expect that to change; bulk creatures with no competitive application rarely move off the floor.
