Elvish Branchbender turns every Forest you control into a temporary creature — relevant power in elf-tribal or land-heavy builds where the activation cost of tapping an elf is trivial. Three mana for a 3/3 body that enables token generation at instant speed is acceptable value, but the payoff scales hard with board width.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Elvish Branchbender sees essentially zero play in Legacy or Vintage, where the bar for three-mana do-nothings is impossibly high. In Pauper, it's legal but outclassed by more efficient commons. Commander is where Elvish Branchbender actually has a case — elf-tribal decks running Ezuri, Renegade Leader or Lathril, Blade of the Elves can exploit the Forest-to-creature conversion for surprise blocking, pump payoffs, or sacrifice fodder, especially when Forest count climbs into the twenties.

Price Context
Current price
$0.33 bulk tier
At $0.33, Elvish Branchbender sits firmly in bulk territory — easy to acquire and not worth trading away for value. Demand is niche enough that the price won't move meaningfully unless a new elf commander with a Forest-matters clause pushes it into wider consideration.
