Elspeth, Knight-Errant hits the board and immediately starts producing 1/1 soldiers, pumping a threat to 4/4 flying, or both — four mana for a planeswalker that demands an answer the turn it arrives is a strong rate. The emblem is a late-game closer, but the floor is already high enough that you run her for the +1s alone.

In Commander, Elspeth, Knight-Errant earns a slot in any white-based token or go-wide deck — she generates bodies every turn, protects herself reasonably well behind a growing board, and her emblem turns an army of 1/1s into an indestructible finisher. Modern has largely passed her by; four mana is asking a lot in a format where games end on turn four, and she sees virtually no competitive play there. Legacy and Vintage allow her but the power bar is set so high she's irrelevant in those formats outside of casual tables. Oathbreaker is arguably her best home outside Commander — she can be the spellbreaker herself, doubling as both general and engine in a format built around planeswalkers.
