Elder Auntie card art
Elder Auntie enters the battlefield and immediately hands you a Goblin token, then keeps the engine running by returning a Goblin from your graveyard to hand at each end step — that's a free body plus recursive card advantage stapled onto one card. The cost is four mana at sorcery speed, which is the only real friction, but pair it with Nim Deathmantle and any sacrifice outlet and the trigger loop gets out of hand fast; Grub, Storied Matriarch decks in particular treat it as a staple rather than a luxury.

Grub, Storied Matriarch

33.0% of decks · synergy 0.31

Grub, Storied Matriarch is built to abuse enters-the-battlefield and graveyard recursion, and Elder Auntie delivers both on a single card — the token enters to trigger Grub's payoffs, and the end-step return keeps the Goblin pipeline full turn after turn without additional investment.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Elder Auntie actually earns a slot — Goblin tribal is one of the format's most popular archetypes, and a four-mana creature that generates a token on entry and recurs a Goblin every end step is exactly the kind of sustained value that 100-card singleton decks want. Outside Commander, the competition gets much steeper: Modern and Legacy Goblin lists run lean and fast, and four mana is a ceiling, not a floor, for those shells. Pioneer and Standard lack the critical Goblin mass to make the recursion loop feel necessary rather than cute. Pauper is where Elder Auntie could theoretically find a second home if Goblin synergy density is there, but the four-mana slot in that format is brutally contested. Stick to Commander.

Price Context

Current price

$0.19 bulk tier

At $0.19, Elder Auntie is firmly bulk — you're picking this up as throw-in in a trade binder or a cheap singles order rather than a deliberate purchase. Bulk rares with narrow tribal applications tend to stay in this range unless a high-profile commander release spikes demand, so don't expect movement.
