Edifice of Authority locks a creature out of attacking or blocking for a turn — and after three activations, it permanently strips that creature's ability to attack or block for the rest of the game. Three mana to deploy and one mana per activation is cheap enough that the cumulative effect snowballs fast in long Commander games.

In Commander, Edifice of Authority is a slow-burn piece of interaction: the first activation buys you a turn of safety, and by the third you've permanently neutralized a threat without spending a removal spell. It shines most in stax, prison, or tap-heavy builds where the one-mana activation cost is mitigated by untap effects or mana acceleration. In competitive constructed formats like Modern and Legacy, it's too slow — three activations across multiple turns is a fantasy against decks that win on turn three or four. Pioneer players won't find a home for it either; the metagame moves too fast for a value engine this gradual. Edifice of Authority is fundamentally a multiplayer card, and Commander is the only format where its full arc reliably plays out.
