Easy Prey trades one mana for one creature and two Clue tokens, making it one of the most efficient cantrip-removal spells at common rarity. The catch is the target restriction — only creatures with mana value 1 or less — which makes it a precision tool rather than a flexible answer.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Easy Prey is a fringe inclusion: the creature pool it can hit is narrow, and most tables run few targets worth spending a spell on at that size. Where it earns a slot is in decks that need cheap instant-speed removal and actively want Clues — Investigator-tribal or artifact-synergy shells where the tokens pull real weight. In Legacy and Vintage the one-mana cost is right, but far stronger one-mana interaction exists, so Easy Prey doesn't compete. Modern and Pioneer are similar — it answers Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer and Delver of Secrets cleanly, which is relevant, but the format depth keeps it out of most sideboards.

$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Easy Prey is pure bulk — there's no meaningful price floor to defend. It's a pickup-at-no-cost inclusion rather than a deliberate budget decision.
