Earthen Goo card art
Earthen Goo is a cumulative upkeep creature that grows by one +1/+1 counter each turn you pay its age cost — skip a payment and it's gone. The ceiling is real in dedicated counter-abuse shells, but the mandatory attrition makes it a liability in anything without a specific plan to exploit it.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

oathbreaker

Earthen Goo is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Commander it earns a niche in Atraxa, Praetors' Voice or similar proliferate shells where the growing counter total becomes a resource rather than a ticking clock, but even there it's a fringe inclusion. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a creature with cumulative upkeep when the format's threat density is this high. Modern theoretically supports it but offers no incentive to run it over threats that don't punish you for missing a payment.

Price Context

Current price

$0.13 bulk tier

At $0.13, Earthen Goo is pure bulk — it costs about as much as a sleeve. Demand is low enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a future proliferate commander pushes it into occasional consideration.
