Earth Rift destroys a land — full stop, no tricks, no upside — for four mana at sorcery speed. That cost is too steep for what it does; one-for-one land destruction at this price point is almost never worth a deck slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Earth Rift is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but competitive interest is essentially zero across all of them. In Commander, four mana to kill one land is a poor trade — the game has moved on to cheaper, more flexible options, and one land rarely changes the board state enough to justify the tempo loss. Pauper is its most plausible home, where the card pool is constrained, but even there the effect is too slow and too narrow to earn a slot. Legacy and Vintage have access to strictly superior land disruption at a fraction of the cost, so Earth Rift never appears.

Price Context
Current price
$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Earth Rift is deep bulk — the price reflects demand accurately. Don't expect movement in either direction; cards with this narrow an effect and no combo relevance stay at the bottom of the bin.
