Earsplitting Rats hits every opponent's hand for two discards the moment it dies — a symmetrical effect that heavily favors decks built to abuse the graveyard or empty their own hand first. The Gitrog Monster shells, discard-matters builds, and reanimator strategies all cash in on that trigger for free; everyone else just loses cards.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Earsplitting Rats scales hard — three opponents each discarding two cards on death is six total cards stripped from the table, which is where this card earns its slot. Outside of Commander, the one-time on-death trigger is too slow and too conditional for Legacy or Vintage, where hand disruption comes from instant-speed, zero-or-one-mana spells that don't require a 2/1 body to die. Pauper is the only non-Commander format where Earsplitting Rats is remotely playable, and even there it competes poorly against proactive discard at lower mana costs.

Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Earsplitting Rats is pure bulk — you'll find it in a common box before you'd bother ordering it. The price is stable at the floor; there's no pressure driving it up, and its niche appeal keeps it from sinking further.
