Drove of Elves card art
Drove of Elves scales with your green permanent count and comes with built-in hexproof, making it a threat that dodges most spot removal and grows to absurd size in dense Elf builds. The floor is embarrassingly low in the early game, but in the mid-to-late turns of an Elf deck — especially under Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury, where green permanents pile up fast — it routinely swings as a 10/10 or better for four mana.

01
Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury

32.1% of decks · synergy 0.31

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury floods the board with Elf tokens and other green permanents, so Drove of Elves enters the battlefield already enormous and stays there — hexproof means Freyalise's own -2 can't accidentally kill it, and opponents have no clean answer short of a board wipe.

02
Ezuri, Renegade Leader

Ezuri, Renegade Leader

19.4% of decks · synergy 0.18

Ezuri, Renegade Leader wants the biggest Elves it can find to funnel overrun activations through, and Drove of Elves reliably clears the size threshold needed to end games in one combat — a hexproof body that Ezuri can pump but that removal can't pick off beforehand is exactly the profile this deck wants.

Drove of Elves is a Commander card — full stop. In Legacy and Vintage, where turn-four 10/10s with hexproof are still slower than the formats' actual threats, it never sees play; Elf tribal in those formats runs lean, explosive lines that don't have room for a slow-building payoff creature. Commander is where Drove of Elves actually delivers: 40-life games go long enough for green permanent counts to balloon, and hexproof is a genuinely meaningful protection mode when opponents have one removal spell per turn rather than a full interactive deck. In Oathbreaker it can occasionally find a home in green creature-dense builds, but the smaller deck size compresses the game enough that the scaling matters less.
