Drill Bit strips a card from an opponent's hand for one mana when you've attacked — the spectacle cost makes it one of the most efficient discard spells available. If you're consistently hitting players in combat, this is a one-mana Thoughtseize without the life loss.

In Commander, Drill Bit is a niche inclusion — hand disruption is weakest in a four-player game where you're only taxing one opponent's options while the other two remain untouched. It fits best in aggressive red-black decks that are already attacking every turn, where spectacle is trivially online and the one-mana cost is nearly free. In Modern and Legacy, Drill Bit competes in earnest: aggressive black shells can reliably trigger spectacle on turn two, making it a real Thoughtseize variant in decks that want redundancy. Pioneer is the friendliest non-rotating home for it, where the discard suite is thinner and a one-mana conditional looks comparatively strong.

Price Context
Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Drill Bit is firmly bulk — easy to pick up without a second thought. The price reflects its narrow spectacle condition rather than its ceiling, and there's no realistic pressure pushing it higher.
