Dread Wight

Creature — Zombie

At end of combat, put a paralyzation counter on each creature blocking or blocked by this creature and tap those creatures. Each of those creatures doesn't untap during its controller's untap step for as long as it has a paralyzation counter on it. Each of those creatures gains "{4}: Remove a paralyzation counter from this creature."

Dread Wight card art
Dread Wight locks down an entire combat step by paralyzing every creature that fails to block it — a repeatable, on-attack soft board freeze that compounds turn over turn. The cost is a five-mana 3/3 with no evasion, which means it has to actually connect to do anything.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

oathbreaker

Commander is the only format where Dread Wight has a realistic home, and even there it needs a niche build to justify the slot — specifically a black stax or tap-matters shell that can grant it evasion or force bad blocks. Legacy and Vintage are legal on paper, but a five-mana creature with no immediate impact and no protection has never been a serious option in either format. The card is not legal in Modern, Pioneer, Standard, or Pauper, and Oathbreaker offers no better context than Commander does.

unknown tier

Pricing data for Dread Wight is currently unavailable, but as an obscure, seldom-played creature from an older set it typically shows up in bulk or near-bulk range. It's not a card you'd speculate on, but if the effect fits your deck, picking up a copy should be cheap.
