Dragonrage turns every attacking creature into a potential one-shot threat by pumping power equal to your remaining unspent mana — in a big-mana Commander game, that ceiling is enormous. The ceiling collapses the moment a sweeper or a Dualcaster Mage (copying it for your opponent) hits the stack, so treat it as a finisher, not a staple.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the only format where Dragonrage is worth discussing — the mana pools that routinely hit eight or ten make the pump relevant enough to close games out of nowhere. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but practically invisible; those formats end too fast and run too lean for a sorcery-speed pump spell with no guaranteed kill to matter. Vintage has the raw mana, but also the interaction density to laugh at a sorcery. Dragonrage is a Commander card wearing multi-format legality as a costume.

$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Dragonrage sits firmly in bulk territory — pickup cost is negligible and there's no reason to hesitate on a copy. Bulk mythics and rares with narrow applications tend to stay at this floor indefinitely, so don't expect movement.
