Dragon's Fire card art
Dragon's Fire deals damage equal to the highest power among Dragons you control — in a deck with even one large Dragon on board, that's a one-mana instant that kills almost anything. Lathliss, Dragon Queen pushes the ceiling high enough that this routinely clocks in as a 5/6/7-damage removal spell for R.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Lathliss, Dragon Queen

Lathliss, Dragon Queen

38.5% of decks · synergy 0.37

Lathliss, Dragon Queen floods the board with 5/5 Dragon tokens, meaning Dragon's Fire almost always fires for five or more — cheap, instant-speed removal that scales with the exact thing Lathliss is already doing.

02
Ganax, Astral HunterAcolyte of Bahamut

Ganax, Astral Hunter // Acolyte of Bahamut

22.2% of decks · synergy 0.22

Ganax, Astral Hunter // Acolyte of Bahamut builds a Dragon tribal board fast, and Dragon's Fire benefits immediately — every new Dragon entering off Acolyte's discount raises the damage ceiling on the next Fire you cast.

03
Rivaz of the Claw

Rivaz of the Claw

20.2% of decks · synergy 0.20

Rivaz of the Claw keeps Dragons coming back from the graveyard, so the board presence needed to make Dragon's Fire hit hard is easier to maintain across multiple turns.

In Commander, Dragon's Fire is a role-player that earns its slot only in Dragon tribal builds — outside that context, Lightning Bolt and Swords to Plowshares exist. In those tribal shells, though, it frequently outperforms both on raw damage, and instant speed matters. In Modern and Pioneer, it sees fringe play in Dragon-based aggressive or midrange strategies where Goldspan Dragon and Shivan Devastator inflate the damage well past four. Pauper is the most interesting case: Dragon's Fire is legal but Dragons are scarce at common, so it functions closer to a bad Shock and rarely sees play. Legacy and Vintage have better tools at every point on the curve, so Dragon's Fire doesn't register there.

$0.30 bulk tier

At $0.30, Dragon's Fire is bulk — easy to acquire and essentially free to include in any Dragon tribal Commander build. Bulk commons and uncommons at this price point rarely move unless a card breaks into competitive constructed, and this one's ceiling is gated to tribal synergy.
