Dragon Hunter is a one-mana 2/1 with protection from Dragons — a hyper-specific body that blanks an entire creature type while trading favorably on rate in aggressive white strategies. Outside of dedicated Dragon-heavy metas, that protection clause is mostly flavor text, and a vanilla 2/1 for one doesn't earn a slot anywhere.

In Commander, Dragon Hunter is a fringe hate piece — it blocks or attacks through every Dragon on the board, which matters exactly when someone is running Ur-Dragon or Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm. Outside of those tables, it's a 2/1 that does nothing. In Modern and Legacy, aggressive white decks have far better one-drops, and the protection clause is too situational to justify the slot over a creature with universal utility. Pioneer offers the same verdict — Dragon Hunter simply doesn't compete with the one-drop density available in those formats.

Price Context
Current price
$0.09 bulk tier
At $0.09, Dragon Hunter is deep bulk — you'll find it in a common box or as throw-in trade fodder. That price isn't going anywhere; hyper-narrow hate pieces at this power level don't spike unless a Dragon commander becomes a dominant tournament presence, and Commander staples rarely move a card this cheap.
