Doubling Chant puts a copy of every creature you control onto the battlefield — that's a board-doubling effect stapled to a single green six-mana sorcery. The cost is steep and the symmetry requirement is real: it only copies each creature type you already have, so the more creature types in play, the more value you extract.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Doubling Chant is a Commander card through and through — the six-mana slot is acceptable in a 40-life format where games go long enough to cast it, and tribal decks running a wide variety of creature types extract disproportionate value. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes with formats defined by cheap interaction and fast clocks that make a six-mana do-nothing sorcery unplayable. Oathbreaker is the one other format worth mentioning: if your signature spell supports a creature-heavy plan, Doubling Chant can close a game, though the 20-life clock makes reaching six mana harder.

Price Context
Current price
$0.38 bulk tier
At $0.38, Doubling Chant is deep bulk — a price point that reflects its narrow tribal application rather than any lack of power. It's unlikely to climb unless a breakout Commander deck puts it in the spotlight, so pick up copies without hesitation if the effect fits your build.
